Spinning an Object in Flash

  1. Creating the OBJECT to SPIN
    Open a new file and type the word DESIGN on the stage with 90 pt. text. Insert frames up to frame 40.


  2. Creating the first tween
    Right click on frame 10 and insert a keyframe. Using the SCALE tool compress the width of the text as far as possible without flipping the text over. Right click anywhere on the timeline between the 2 keyframes and select CREATE MOTION TWEEN.


  3. Creating the second tween
    Right click in frame 11 and select INSERT KEYFRAME. With keyframe 11 selected choose MODIFY / TRANSFORM / FLIP HORIZONTAL.


  4. Expand the REVERSED text
    Right click in frame 20 and insert a keyframe. With frame 20 selected select the scale tool and expand the text back to it original width. Use the info tool to match the width exactly. Right click anywwhere on the timeline between frames 11 and 20 and CREATE MOTION TWEEN.


  5. Add another keyframe
    Right click in frame 30 and add another keyframe. Using the SCALE tool and once again compress the width of the text to its minimum. Right click anywhere on the timeline between frames 20 and 30 and CREATE MOTION TWEEN.


  6. Create the final frames
    Right click on frame 31and insert a keyframe. With keyframe 31 selected choose MODIFY / TRANSFORM / FLIP HORIZONTAL. Right click in frame 40 and insert a keyframe. With frame 40 selected select the scale tool and expand the text back to it original width.


  7. Creating the LOOPING ACTION
    Right click on frame 40 and select ACTIONS. Select GO TO from the BASIC ACTIONS PANEL.


  8. Select F12 on the keyboard to take a look at the spinning action.
