Add a Movie Clip to a Button Over State

  1. Create or import a simple MOVIE CLIP
    For this exercise we'll create a simple key frame animation to use in the button. Select INSERT / NEW SYMBOL. Select MOVIE CLIP. Create a simple animated movie clip.

  2. Create a button symbol
    Select INSERT / NEW SYMBOL. Select BUTTON.


  3. Create the objects to use in the BUTTON STATES
    Add a simple graphic to the UP STATE of the button


  4. Add the MOVIE CLIP to the button OVER STATE
    Select the OVER STATE frame in the timeline to make it active. Right click in the same timeline frame and select INSERT BLANK KEYFRAME. With the library open select the name of your movie clip in the symbol names list of the library. Drag the movie clip symbol from the preview window of the library onto the stage of the button over state.


  5. Finish the button
    Add keyframes and graphics to the DOWN and HIT states of the buttons.


  6. Return to the MAIN STAGE

  7. Put an INSTANCE of the button on the stage
    Select the button symbol name in the library. Drag the symbol from the LIBRARY PREVIEW window onto the stage.


  8. Select F12 on the keyboard to preview the button.
